- Ingredients :


Butter: 150g (⅔ cup)

Sugar: 150g (¾ cup)

Orange Zest: 1 tablespoon

3 Eggs

Plain Flour: 150g (1 cup)

Poppy Seeds: 1-2 tablespoons

Baking Powder: 1 teaspoon

Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon

Orange Extract: ½ teaspoon

Orange Juice: 60ml (¼ cup)

For the Orange Buttercream:


Powdered Sugar: 200g (1 cup)

Butter: 100g (7 tablespoons)

Orange Extract: 1 teaspoon

Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon

Orange Food Coloring (optional)

Measuring cup size: 240ml

Baking pan size: 31x11x7.5 cm

Oven preheated to 170°C (338°F)

This delightful cake bursts with citrusy flavors and is perfect for any occasion. The combination of orange zest and poppy seeds creates a unique and delicious treat that you'll want to enjoy every day! 


Preparing the Cake Batter:

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 170°C (338°F).


Prepare the Pan: Grease and flour a 31x11x7.5 cm baking pan to prevent sticking.


Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together 150g (⅔ cup) butter, 150g (¾ cup) sugar, and 1 tablespoon of orange zest until light and fluffy.


Add Eggs: Gradually add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.


Incorporate Flavors: Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon of orange extract, and 60ml (¼ cup) of orange juice for a burst of citrus flavor.


Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together 150g (1 cup) plain flour, 1-2 tablespoons of poppy seeds, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder.


Mix Everything Together: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter


Baking the Cake:


Transfer to Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.


Smooth the Top: Use the back of a spoon to smooth the top of the batter for an even finish.


Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.


Making the Orange Buttercream:


Prepare Buttercream: In a bowl, cream together 200g (1 cup) powdered sugar and 100g (7 tablespoons) butter until light and fluffy.


Add Flavorings: Stir in 1 teaspoon of orange extract and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for enhanced flavor.


Color (Optional): Add orange food coloring to achieve your desired shade of orange. 


Frosting the Cake:

Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.


Spread Buttercream: Once cooled, spread the orange buttercream evenly over the top of the cake using a spatula or knife. 


Decorate (Optional): You can decorate with additional orange zest or poppy seeds for a beautiful presentation.
